Storage Atlas
The Tampa Bay self-storage market, parcel by parcel
Overview
Storage Atlas rebuilds Tampa Bay's self-storage market from the parcel record — identifying facilities, operators, site acreage, and rentable square feet across Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, and Hernando counties. It then measures supply against population inside each facility's 3-mile trade area to find coverage gaps.
How to use
Select a county
Use the county picker to choose Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, or Hernando. The map will show all identified self-storage facilities in that county.
Explore facilities
At county zoom, facilities appear as proportional dots sized by rentable square feet. Zoom in to see parcel polygons. Facilities are color-coded: amber for national brands, teal for independents.
Toggle layers
Toggle the 3-mile trade area rings and the unserved population choropleth. The choropleth shades census tracts by how many people live beyond 3 miles from any facility — redder means more underserved.
Read analytics
The side panel shows facility count, total rentable sq ft, sq ft per capita compared to the US average, operator breakdown, site size distribution, and vintage (decade built).
Click for details
Click any facility to see operator name, rentable sq ft, acreage, year built, and assessed value. Click a census tract to see population served vs. unserved.

Limitations
Facility identification is based on land use codes and parcel attributes. Facilities owned by LLCs without recognizable brand names may be missed, so the reported supply is a lower bound. Rentable square foot estimates are derived from site acreage using industry ratios.
